Questions to ask your seamstress
Because this isn’t just any dress. It’s the dress — and your fit is everything.
|
|
Ask every shop these. Below is how we answer them. A free phone consult is still how we quote your gown — not how we hide the basics.
|
| 01 |
How long is each appointment?
What happens if you need more time? Is there an extra fee?
|
At HQT
Phone consults are about 30 minutes and free. Fittings take as long as they take — we don’t charge extra for more time in the appointment. We stand by our quote unless you decide to change what we already agreed to.

How many appointments do you schedule?
What happens if you need more? Is there an extra fee?
|
At HQT
Most brides have three fittings. We also offer a two-appointment option that costs less and does not include extra fit-checks. If you choose two appointments and then want more changes, those are billed separately — we’ll tell you before we do them.

| 03 |
How do you charge for alterations?
Pay as you go? Charge as they alter? Or is the price known up front?
|
At HQT
You get a quote on the free phone consult (photos of you in the gown help). The $200 fitting consultation is paid when you book that first in-shop appointment and is credited toward alterations. We finalize the invoice at the first fitting. The remainder is due before the second fitting / halfway through. Typical alterations run about $700; with add-ons, about $1,200. Range for common work is $600–$3,000 depending on the gown.

What if the gown is more work than expected?
|
At HQT
We stand by the quote. Extra charges only happen if you choose to change the plan after we agreed on it — and we’ll tell you the cost before we do that new work. We don’t surprise you at pickup.

| 05 |
Where can I view samples of your work?
|
At HQT
Website portfolio, TikTok (our busiest), Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube. Many fittings are recapped on video (with your sign-off) so you can see how we actually work — not just a highlight reel.

| 06 |
If I need to reschedule or book, how do I do that?
|
At HQT
Book the free phone consult on our site. After that, the fitting consultation is scheduled online ($200 toward alterations). Need to reschedule? Use the link in your texts/emails. If you’re stuck, text or call us — Hannah and Yuliana handle that.
|
|
| 07 |
How can I pay? Deadlines?
|
At HQT
Cards, cash, or Zelle (Zelle skips card fees). Pay online through the invoice link. The $200 is due when you book the first fitting. The rest is due before the second fitting / halfway through the process.

What if I pick up the gown and find an issue later?
|
At HQT
We offer free repairs before the wedding day, even after pickup, when it’s our work. If you request new changes after pickup, that may be billed. Changing shoes, shapewear, or petticoats after we fitted you can change the fit — tell us immediately; we’ll help if time allows. Full details are in the alterations contract you sign at the first fitting.

How do I communicate between appointments?
|
At HQT
Text or email. You’ll get automated reminders. We don’t disappear between fittings. 346-474-5100 · [email protected]

Is the seamstress doing the fittings, or someone else?
|
At HQT
Hannah or Yuliana — whoever is available that day. We work your file together. After each fitting we upload a recap video and photos so the next appointment isn’t starting from scratch. Sewing is done in-house by our team (including our full-time seamstress).

When do you cut excess fabric?
|
At HQT
We do not cut until the fit is locked — not at the first fitting. Extra fabric is what lets a gown out later if you need it. (That’s also why we tell brides: salons should order to the bust and keep extra fabric, not order the largest measurement and hope.)
|
|
| 12 |
What happens if my weight fluctuates?
|
At HQT
Tell us as soon as you know. We’ll do everything we can if time allows. Extra fittings or new work may be charged. Wear the same shoes and shapewear we fitted you in — changing those after the fact can undo the fit, and we can’t be responsible for that.
